Reboot Hack
is the first ever student organized hackathon for students in Iceland and will be held in the University of Iceland for the second time in 2020.
Hackathons have been missing from Icelandic culture.
Reboot Hack aims to bring the hacker culture from Europe and America to Icelandic students.
Hackathons
are not about “hacking” but rather creating.
Hackathon can be thought of as an invention marathon where participants get space to learn, build and create.
Students compete in groups and work for over 24 hours to develop an idea/technological solution from scratch.
The product can be a website, small application or any other technology.
Reboot Hack is organized by students for students and is completely free to attend.
Reboot Hack's Story
Reboot Hack was founded in May 2018 by three computer science and engineering students at the University of Iceland. Reboot Hack was first held the 2nd and 3rd of February at the University of Iceland where 60 university students from 5 different universities participated.
The name was chosen as it signifies starting over. We want to encourage participants to reboot their ideas about technology and the ever-changing needs of society.
“Starting over” can also refer to students rethinking how they use what they already know while learning from other participants and mentors.
Reboot Hack’s 2019-2020 project management is composed of 13 students from the University of Iceland, University of Reykjavík and the Iceland University of the Arts. The project management is led by Kristjana Björk Barðdal, the hackathon’s director.
